Blow 2 Quart Butter Churn With Original Label

Tax included.

A nice example of a c.1940 J.J. Blow Ltd 2 quart glass butter churn. Marked as 20/2 and Made in England. As is usual for these churns there is minor rust to the lid but this can be cleaned away should you so wish. Otherwise this is in fine fettle and will be a lovely decorator piece for your kitchen. We really like that the original paper label is intact and fully readable which makes this one slightly rare.

Dimensions: Roughly 32cm tall and 12cm x 12cm square at the base.

J.J. Blow Ltd

J.J. Blow began its journey in London in 1929, although it did not become a Limited Company until 1940. It made agricultural equipment for milking, and began producing butter churns to supplement its farm business. They proved to be enormously popular in the UK and Australia. Manufacturing was in Chesterfield.

The company became a subsidiary of Robinson and Sons Ltd in the early 1940's but the Blow brand remained popular, even extending to an automated feeder for calves in the 1960's. The company sold Blow on as a brand in 1986 and soon afterwards the Chesterfield works were knocked down.

Blow butter churns were not sold in America where the market was dominated by the older Dazey Butter Churn Company. It is understood that the companies were known to collaborate on design.
