A cute pocket book from the Collins Nutshell Books collection from the 1960's entitled Gardening Month by Month. Great advice and an interesting look at how things were done in the day. A gorgeous front cover and an item of great fun. In good condition with some age related wear.
Collins Nutshell Books
Collins published its first book, a Globe Dictionary on 1824, and was given a license to print the King James Bible in 1839. The company expanded rapidly through the remainder of the century, opening offices around the world.
In 1902 Collins published its first pocket book in the Gem series, entitled A Pocket Pronouncing Dictionary. In 1924, Agatha Christie joined Collins stable of writers. In 1936 the company continued to innovate, becoming the first publishing hose to create its own font.
In 1961 Collins expanded into childrens books by publishing The Cat in The Hat by Dr. Seuss. About this time the Nutshell Books Series began being published. At the time of this post there are 62 published titles in the series.
In 1989 News Corporation acquired Collins, two years on from its acquisition of Harpers, and in 1990 brought them together to form the publishing group now known as HarperCollins.
