A beautifully designed gold and red Florentine tray. Made in Italy with all of the hallmarks of the style and playfullness of this style of item. This round tray is 43cm in diameter. We believe it to be a 1960's version and it has age appropriate wear which we think adds to the charm of the piece. Serve your festive or party drinks on this beauty to impress your guests.
Florentine trays
Florentine trays are hand-crafted, traditional Italian trays made from a number of different materials. They could be black poplar wood (rare), paper maché or resin. They are pressed or carved into intricate and usually stylish pattens. Each tray is painted in a base of gold and embellished with other rich colours; red, green and blue are popular.
Florentine trays look very formal but are seen as fun items that add a little sparkle to any occasion, just imagine serving drinks on them at Christmas, or making a wall display of a number of them.
Florence was a centre of fine art during the Renaissance, and its craft traditions remained well-established up to the 19th century. Trays are still made in Florence today.
Caring for Florentine trays
Do not ever immerse your Florentine tray completely in water or put into a dishwasher. The trays should, wherever possible be wiped down after use with a dry lint free cloth. If the tray has spillage on it, this should be mopped up as soon as possible. At most, the tray can be dabbed with a damp cloth, perhaps with a small amount of lemon juice in the water. If made damp you should dry immediately (and gently) with a soft cloth so as not to rub away the delicately applied paint.
