A really interesting 1932 trunk, black on the outside. Lid made out of a Colman’s chest, insides applique’d with 1932 newspaper cuttings. Crack in lid appears to be as old as the chest itself. Age appropriate wear and patina. 72 x 38 x 46cm
We believe this to be a serviceman's Chitty trunk. After service overseas, members of the British services used to construct their own trunks in which to send home belongings from their tour. These were sent home separately to the serviceman, by sea from the far reaches of the Empire.
Now a fabulous storage or blanket chest for home, with great history.
