A nice example of the 1950's Mettoy Supertype tin typewriter toy (Number 4317) with original box. In good condition with a few minor age appropriate blemishes. No ribbon so not tested but moves freely and appears to be completely intact. Approximately 25cm wide. This will make a great ornament in a child's room. The box is rather tatty but repairable.
Mettoy was a British Toy manufacturer started in Nuremberg in 1933 but moved to England shortly afterwards. Mettoy was a shortened form of Metal Toy. The company moved from Northampton to Fforestfach, Swansea in 1944 and survived until in the aftermath of a major fire in 1969 it became a PLC. The company legacy is now part of the Hornby group.
