A Green fluted Victorian glass apothecary’s bottle with stopper. The fluted sides always denote that what was inside was toxic, though rest assured it is clean and safe now. The active substance was Catharidian, an extract of Spanish flies. Application had a blistering effect which was thought to draw out superfluous liquid from the body.
It measures 20cm (8 inches) high to the stopper top and 7.6cm (3 inches) high at the base.
The mark on the base reads E.S. & Co then Bottle reg No. 263897.
This is a stunning emerald colour, a real statement piece.
Please note there is a small crack across the surface of the label.
